Since the dawn of history, Yemen has been known as the Land of the Two Gardens, famous for the cultivation of various kinds of grapes, each with its own unique flavour, colour, and nutritional profile. Historical evidence suggests that ancient Yemenis counted the Queen of Grapes among their deities, and the grape vine was considered the tree of life, symbolizing immortality. Funded and supported by the World Bank’s International Development Association, the Yemen Emergency Crisis Response Project (YECRP) is implemented by the Social Fund for Development (SFD) and the Public Works Project (PWP) in partnership with UNDP Yemen. The US$ 411 million project provides economic stimuli in the form of large cash-for-work projects, support to small businesses, and labour-intensive repairs of socio-economic assets, benefiting vulnerable local households and communities across Yemen.

Love and Coffee video clip - Ahmed Saif The song of love and coffee has been written over 40 years ago. It’s sung by hundreds of farmers and its special for a lot of Yemenis. It explains life in its simplest forms and Yemenis are known for being humble. The great poet Mutahar Bin Ali Al-Eryani wrote the lyrics of this song as he was inspired by a true story of a young farmer who proposed for a girl in his village and wanted to marry her, but had to wait for harvest season to earn an income. The song shows a clear indication of the importance of coffee as an important source to improve Yemen’s economy, which can protect individuals and the society from poverty and need. Our message of re-producing this song is to remind the young generation of the importance of coffee and motivate the whole community to take care of it, so that Yemeni coffee can return to be the BEST coffee in the world. Beekeeping and honey production are ancient crafts that date back to the 10th century BC. The Yemeni traditional profession of beekeeping still serves as a source of income for thousands of Yemeni families. To this day, Yemeni honey maintains an excellent commercial reputation and Sidr honey, in particular, is considered one of the most expensive and finest honey varieties in the world. Yemeni honey is not only considered to be a healthy dietary supplement, but also is considered by UNDP to be one of the keys to enhancing economic resilience in Yemen, particularly in rural communities. Unfortunately, beekeeping and honey production have been affected by climate change, armed conflicts, and farmers use of pesticides. Today, @UNDP’s Yemen Emergency Crisis Response Project (#YECRP) celebrates the #WorldBeeDay, with the @WorldBank, @SFDYemen & @YMNnetwork through supporting beekeepers across the country to to address food insecurity, improve agricultural production, and support financial investments helping vulnerable families and communities mitigate and cope with the impacts of climate change.
